View a VIDEO of a "Coming-About"
maneuver (Tack) during a "Quick Turn"
Crew-Over-Board Rescue.

In the maneuver "Coming-About", the sailboat is turned by passing the bow of the boat through the wind.  Only the jib has to be adjusted, by taking the sail's working sheet off the leeward winch and placing the new working sheet on the opposite winch, trimming the sail.

Crew Commands

#1.  Helmsman:  "Ready-About"
- The crew checks the sheets, secures the new working jib sheet (windward sheet)  and maintains tension on but uncleats the current working sheet (leeward sheet).
#2:  Crew:  "Ready"
#3:  Helmsman:  "Tacking" or "Hard-a-lee"
--The bow passes through the wind, as jib starts to luff, the leeward sheet is released and the new working sheet is trimmed.   The mainsail and boom will slowly switch sides as the boat turns.  At the end of the turn, the trim of the mainsail may need adjusting.
