In the scoop recovery method a capsized boat can be brought upright regardless of the direction of the wind because the scooped crew member prevents it from recapsizing. One crew member grabs the center board which prevent the boat from turtling. The other crew member prepares to be scooped and holds onto a hiking strap or a fixed object. When the scooped crew member is ready the person grabbing the center board places his weight on the end of the centerboard starting the boat to upright. He then grabs the deck and uprights the boat. The crew member in the water makes his way to the back and the onboard crew member helps him board over the stern. |
